notes from a pandemic...

Hello friends,

Where to begin? If you are anything like me, you’ve been glued to a screen for weeks, scrolling for any new article, post or graph that might make sense of this strange new world. I think we are all desperate for anything that feels concrete, anything that can be applied as a salve against the constant ache of uncertainty.

It is hard to know how to move forward, when we are collectively, crucially staying still. I take solace in the knowledge that we are showing up for something bigger than all of us, a vast movement to flatten the curve.

As an independent designer, I am part of an interdependent ecosystem of small businesses. We are all grappling with very real concerns about the safety of our families and loved ones, as well as the survival of the brands and stores we work hard to maintain. The hustle is always tough, but right now it is particularly intense and frankly, awkward. It feels bizarre to promote my material goods in this moment, when so many are facing unbelievable challenges.

And yet, I am deeply proud of my self-funded, one-woman business and want to ensure its survival. I remain steadfast in my commitment to conscious design that is oriented by the touchstones of longevity, quality and sustainability. I am lucky to still have access to my studio and to the work that brings me such joy. I’ll keep sanitizing, sewing, and shipping as long as I can. Spring newness will arrive in the next few weeks, for a burst of brightness. Get ready for color to soothe the soul and excite the eye!

If you have the means to do so, and have had your eye on some fine leather goods, now is a great time to make a purchase. Whether you buy directly from me or from one of my stockists, every little bit helps. We want to be here for you when this is over, but we need help to survive until then. Consider your purchase the virtual equivalent of a massive hug.

Support is not solely monetary, and you can still help you favorite brands in alternative ways. If you cannot spend anything right now, consider sharing your favorite pieces on social media. Leave a comment on their posts or tag a friend. Sign up for newsletters. Share a brand you love with friends and family members. It goes a long way.

I am happy to be a part of such an inspiring, conscientious community and I’ll be sending virtual solidarity right back. Feel free to let me know what you want to see more of in this time, and in the future. Let’s connect, however we can.

With gratitude,

Hannah
